10 Day Juice Fast Day Six: Shopping while juicing…

Today we headed out to Whole Foods Market in order to pick up the essentials we will need for Christmas Day at our house. I thought I had really put the food temptations behind me, but it was very difficult walking through the store and smelling all the goodness! Note to self: don’t go past the bakery or the hot bar while on a juice fast! But I made it work for me by going to a juice bar and trying two new types of juices. One of them I love so much, that I also picked up the ingredients to try and make it myself! Here’s how day six of my 10 day juice fast went.

The day started out with the good ‘ole carrot juice. It never fails me, because it’s just fabulous!

  • 3 Fuji apples
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1/2 lemon

I named this juice “The Ugly One,” because it just looked so awful. But the juice was in fact, amazingly delicious. Never judge a juice by its color!

Juice Bar Drinks:

  • red beet
  • carrot
  • celery
  • kale
  • apple

I’m not sure how many of each item was used in this recipe, but the juice was delicious so I will probably attempt it myself.  And it sure is a pretty color, dontcha think?

  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 green apples
  • 3 stalks celery
  • 4 carrots
  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1 clove garlic

By day five, something very interesting happened: I started craving a juice that has things like tomato and onion in it. I was going to attempt something like this at home, but the juice bar had this – so I went for it. The garlic made me nervous, but I must admit that this was probably the most I’ve enjoyed a drink this week (next to the awesome Pineapple-Pumpkin juice of course). This juice isn’t much to look at, but it is simply fantastic! Very hearty, and the tomato-garlic mixture is such a nice change from all the green and fruity juices. I’m definitely going to try making this one myself.

  • 4 Fuji apples
  • 2 Bartlett pears
  • 2 red d’Anjou pears
  • 1 cup chopped fennel stem and leaf

I have been juicing for a while now, and this one is a long-time favorite. Regular pears will work for this recipe. The fennel flavor mixed with the pears is simply divine. After that delightful tomato-garlic juice, this one was refreshing and an enjoyable way to finish off the day.

Do you have any juice recipes you recommend that I try while I’m on my juice fast? I’d love to hear about them! Please share them in the comment section! And if you all want to follow along with my daily updates, you can do so on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. I’m @CrystalECollins.

  1. Hi Crystal,
Did you do a post on why you are doing a juice fast? I may have missed it. I am not on Facebook and was just curious. I didn’t know if it was medical or cleansing. Thanks.

    • I haven’t done a post on that why, but am getting that question a lot so that post will be coming soon. I’m doing it as a cleanse and also to help educate others on the benefits of juicing. More to come, stay tuned! :)

  2. Hey Crystal! I just did a 3 day juice fast. I did the Morning Green Glory (kale, spinach, romaine, celery, cucumber, apple and lemon), Nashi Pear (pear, apple and celery), and Carrot, Apple, Ginger with a blended frozen banana (ok, this was the juice made into a smoothie. Also, the Kalicious Smoothie…mmmm! Kale, Spinach, fresh apple juice, lemon and frozen bananas (2). So, I did some smoothies with mine, but it was really yummy!! I would like to try 10 days but I haven’t gotten the nerve up yet. 3 days is the most I’ve done. I can’t wait to read all your posts on the fast! =) Liz

      • Go you!! I read through all your juicing posts last night!! I’m super stoked for you! I always feel great when I take a few days and juice. I obviously have been lenient with my smoothies this round…I was doing it to rehydrate. =) Hope it finishes out well! I’ll be watching the posts!
