I DARE You to Drink This for 3 Days, and Tell Me What Happens to the Scale…

Earlier this evening I posted this picture onto social media and challenged my friends to try the drink for 3 days and see what happens. The photo blew up with people wanting to accept my challenge, and the questions came pouring in like crazy.

So in order to simplify, I’m turning this into a blog post in order to answer all the questions that I was bombarded with.

First, the recipe…

Apple Cider Vinegar Lemon and Cayenne Colon Cleanse Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of lukewarm or hotΒ water (whichever you prefer)
  • 1-2 tspΒ apple cider vinegar (I will do up to 2 TB)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1-2 drops of therapeutic grade lemon oil
  • Optional: 1-2 TB maple syrup to sweeten

Directions:

Mix everything together, and drink before your meal.

For the purpose of this challenge, you should drink 3 glasses a day (before every meal) for 3 days.

~Common Questions~

Q: Can I substitute fresh squeezed lemon juice for the oil?

A: Yes you can. But, keep in mind that lemon juice is very acidic and is harmful to the enamel on your teeth. The lemon essential oil is easier on your teeth, and has more benefits because it is extracted from lemon peels.

If you do substitute, use 1/2 of a fresh-squeezed lemon.

Q: Can I use grapefruit essential oil instead?

A: Yes you can, and I do that regularly!

Q: I can’t handle the apple cider vinegar… it makes my stomach upset. What do I do?

A: Try using less of it, and work your way up to more over the course of the three days.

Q: Do I really have to do the cayenne pepper?

A: For the purpose of this dare, yes. πŸ˜‰

Q: How does this help with weight loss?

A: The apple cider vinegar contains pectin, which suppresses appetite. It will make you feel fuller and more satisfied. The acid in it helps with digestion, and ensures that you’re more likely to achieve thorough digestion of your food. It also reduces the amount of time that fats stay in the digestive tract, meaning they are less likely to be absorbed fully. Lemon oil and cayenne also work to suppress appetite, and flush the colon of toxins.

So basically, you’re giving yourself an amazing appetite suppressant as well as something that helps your body quickly digest and flush out toxins!

So are you ready to take my dare?

  1. In order to participate, leave your current weight in the comments below and also be sure to take a picture of yourself.
  2. Then after the 3 days are up, check your weight again and report here.
  3. Be sure to also take an after photo, so that you can see the visual change.

Ready to take my dare? Let’s put on our big britches and do this together!! #WeGotThis

P.S. If you do this, make sure you have permission from your doctor, mmmmkay? This is a sort of cleanse, and you will be detoxing and going to the bathroom… quite a bit. I’m not offering any medical advice with this post… just sharing something that has worked for me. πŸ˜€

Much love,

So where are all the afters? Did everyone die?
I’ve done the lemonade cleanse for 10 days. Like just water/lemon/cayanne/ maple syrup for 10 days and nothing else. One of the hardest dicuplined things over ever done. The first 3 days were sort brutal. I was very hungry all the time and became quite irratable, however that passed and then I started feeling really good and had a lot of energy. Those first 3 days for any non-food cleanse are always tough. my guess is that it’s a combination of your body getting used to not process food as much, the “toxins” actually leaving your body or getting jostled up. (I’d still like to know what these toxins are exactly). And then the next 7 days were a mixture of feeling really good and sorta hungry, but maybe I just mostly missed the act of eating. I found myself feeling pretty good by day 10, but made the mistake of going to a restaurant with some
Friends. While I drank tea they ate and a guy on the other side of the ion had ordered a streak. I don’t think I had ever smelled something so delicious. I was salivating like dog. I couldn’t take it any more – I needed food. So I ate some watermelon and eased back into eating.

Anyway – I’ll try this tomorrow for a couple days and see how it goes. Not looking to loose weight, but cleaning the innards would b good.
    2/15/16 – 158.

I’d like to try this because I had the sleeve done and have put on weight!
I crave sweets all the time. Plus I’m always hungry I’ve never been hungry late at night.
My main concern is that I cannot handle hot or spicy peppers. It upsets my stomach and I’ll get a painful flare up!
So I’ve never been able to do any detox that included hot peppers of any kind. Or grapefruit juices.
Does it have to be natural maple syurp? I have diabetes can I use natural organic honey?
I’ve got to make more of an effort and not just feel hopeless.and give up trying different things. I’m very upset with myself for gaining back weight loss after the surgery. I know the intense amount of stress I’ve been thru just doesn’t justify it.
    Thanks
    Elizabeth

I also had the sleeve and have gained back half of the weight I lost. Not sure what started the trend to gain but I know my thyroid is at least partially to blame. Just started synthroid 2 months ago but haven’t lost any of the weight. Don’t give up on yourself. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the topic but the sleeve is still relatively new so there aren’t a ton of long term studies. Hang in there!

      • Delo April 29, 2016 at 8:03 pm - Reply

I was on synthroid for several years. Started at 25mg, then was increased to 50 but gained weight even though I’m a fitness instructor and was teaching up to 10 classes a week at the time. I went to a endocrinologist last year an requested to be changed to Armour Thyroid. Started at 60 mg and things were going okay but symptoms came back after a few months. I asked him to try to get my levels not just in range but to optimal range. Increased Armour to 90 mg two months ago and I also am on an low carb, high protein diet and am now seeing weight loss. Before thyroid issues I had lost over 130 lbs through low carb diet and exercise. Never give up. It works! Also, to all reading this….If you have ever been diagnosed as anemic and your doctor put you on iron, PLEASE, PLEASE take it as directed. I promise you will thank me for this!!! Especially if you have any issues with your period! I was put on 2 iron tablets per day (1 morning and 1 evening) and I take it with a chewable vitamin C. Some things I thought were related to thyroid was related to the anemia. Peace. Oh, BTW, (LOL) I drink warm lemon water all throughout the day and it has done wonders for digestion and constipation issues.

          Delo,
Are you Hypothyridism or Hyper? I have been on a yoo with my weight and I have been going to the gym doing cardio and eating healthy. I am on the border line of anemia though I was anemic a couple of years ago. I just have tried to eat food with iron, though again it is frustrating to be on the yoyo of all this. When you drink this mix, can I use cinnamon instead of cayenne pepper?

      • Robin May 5, 2016 at 6:45 pm - Reply

I also had the done. A couple of times I have gained abnormal weight back. I crave sweetsxas well but go back to the proper way of eating nothing to drink 30 minutes before a meal, 30 minutes for the meal and nothing to drink for 30 more minutes it will reset the sleeve. I have always had a hard time with real food or protein drinks without medication. I used to drink vinegar for years and if it cleans coffee pots imagine what it does for our bodies. Please get clearance from your doctor because we do not get nutrition like other people especially if you stay sick on your stomach too. If you are on medication be careful because the vinegar will clean out your medications so be careful. I can no longer tolerate vinegar but I always felt awesome for the many years I drank a couple of ounces daily plus daily put it on greens. I went for my yearly bariatric visit and the bariatric store had so many new approved foods that do not hurt my stomach. I hope this helps. #imissvinegar πŸ™‚

generally there is only a small amount of weight loss with the initiation of Levothyroxine. It also depends on how high your TSH was. Many people are gaining weight back from having the gastric sleeve because they don’t follow the prescribed diet. Surgery is not a cure all. Also, what individuals don’t realize, is that there is a lifestyle change, having surgery can mask the real underlying cause of the obesity it is like just putting a “bandaid” on dismembered limb.

    • Heather April 27, 2016 at 6:12 pm - Reply

If you’ve had weight loss surgery, you might find you do better with the Five Day Pouch Test.

It helps get your pouch (bypass) or sleeve back to a smaller size.

Search it and you’ll find the eating plan.

I keep seeing all these comments about “starting this diet” and not “not eating only drinking this”. Yikes! Honestly, not eating anything is a recipe for failure… Do not starve your body! It just tells your body to hold onto the weight! When your body needs fuel it begins to break down your protein rich muscles too. I don’t think this post was intended as a no food cleanse or even as a “diet” it’s meant to aid in gradual weight loss with exercise and a healthy diet and it works!!! It works as part of a lifestyle change not a fad diet.

    • Crystal Collins April 19, 2016 at 9:44 pm - Reply

Yes, this is meant to be had along with regular meals. πŸ™‚

    • Melody April 25, 2016 at 6:38 pm - Reply

Actually, this is not 100% true. Historically, many cultures and religions fast for days at a time. It is actually good for your body to have a break from food and it does not break down muscle unless you have no fat at all to burn. Not that you should use this regularly as a diet, but it is not as dangerous as you’re claiming.

As a teenager my dad had our entire family do this master cleanse. We didn’t eat anything for 21 days. Just drank this a gallon a day. I never felt better and had more energy. The maple syrup has the vitimins and minerals that you need to stay healthy. Also apple cider vinegar helps to sooth stomach issues and much to many people’s surprise cayenne pepper is very healing for ulcers and other issues with the stomach. I am picking up the items and will begin this again.

I assume – cold, room temperature. Earlier in comments some student asked, if she can let it sit, autor wrote yes, but to keep it cold. So I assume it must be drunk cold or must be pulled out the fridge few mins before the meal.

Hi I’m taking a one a day tablet for having too much acid, will the cider vinegar react with this?

    • Lisa D. April 26, 2016 at 8:16 am - Reply

I’m no doctor but this is from the evidence of friends I have passed the information along to… Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) ALONE will fix your acid issue. The pill you take is a band aid. My son’s 2nd grade teacher’s daughter was diagnosed with possibly having gerd (worse than acid reflux) she started taking a shot (1 ounce) of ACV every morning, quit her Tagamet cold turkey – a12 year old should not be living on Tagamet anyway :(.. within 6 weeks her daughter stopped NEEDING anything for her acid issues. That was 8 years ago. ALSO, do NOT drink purified bottle water. It’s very acidic! If you drink bottled water, make it spring water, it’s neutral, like your body. (specifically Braggs raw-unfiltered unpasteurized ACV)

I was diagnosed with GURD in 2014, my chest was killing me when I ate anything. The doctor gave me nexium. I hate taking medication. I took as prescribed until I researched the long term effects of nexium then stopped immediately. My cousin said for me to try ACV. I totally thought he was joking. I picked some up at the store and haven’t had a problem since!

You should consult your doctor or pharmacist to see if it will react with the tablet you are taking.

    • Randi April 26, 2016 at 5:06 pm - Reply

I would highly suggest reading the book the “Master Cleanse”. It will answer every question you have about it. It is okay to do 10-40 days in a row, but then you should at least wait 30 days before doing it again. The “Master Cleanse” will give you a slightly different recipe (minus the apple cider vinegar).

    • Randi April 26, 2016 at 5:08 pm - Reply

They do not work the same way as cayenne pepper. So your results would be different. I suggest only sprinkling the cayenne pepper in the drink if you are having problems drinking it, then every day add a little more until you get use to it.

    • Randi April 26, 2016 at 5:10 pm - Reply

I think it’s important to discuss this with your doctor. You are eliminating toxins out of your body and they may come out in the milk. Therefore you could be giving your baby toxins.

I tried it but got a nasty rash, as I later found out I’m allergic to citrus! It took 1 year for the rash to completely disappear. It started as a dot and grew to the size of a bread plate. Larger than my hand! Had a biopsy to confirm the allergy. It turned up on multiple sites with raised edges, reddening, itching and dry flaking skin. So be careful if you have food allergy!

Had I done it before & gotten little or no results for my efforts, I think I would be very motivated to “dis” the system for its failure. However, had I done something that worked, I think I would be less concerned about posting something to warn others off… so probably they either got results or didn’t follow it properly, which is another reason I might not post even if I didn’t see results.

Ice and make sure NOT to use sugar, this will counter the results. I drink this all day for 3 days and I lost 6 pounds.Yes you will use the bathroom a lot,but there is no hot lip or mouth when you drink this one. Good luck..I usually only eat breakfast and have a light dinner when doing this. Works EVERY time..

I gagged my first dose today for breakfast and 5 minutes later violently vomited the whole drink right back up. Instead of suppressing my appetite, I had to drink and eat anything I could find to get the taste out of my mouth and try to calm my wriggling intestines. 4 hours later and my intestines are still burning.

This all felt like a mean trick that my sisters used to pull on me when I was little and they brewed me up some witches brew to drink. I can’t think of a possible worse way to lose weight. Sorry πŸ™

Hi Crystal, I will do the challenge but am wondering – you say drink 3 glasses a day, one before each meal. The ingredients are already 2 cups of water etc, so do you divide the recipe into 3 cups and drink one before each meal or do you make the whole recipe each time ?.
    Thanks, Jacquie

You can do that if you wish.

    • melanie May 5, 2016 at 11:41 pm - Reply

      Jacquie,

I think you are asking if you can divide up 16 oz. into 3 servings?
If that is what you are asking, the answer is no, you drink 16oz before each meal.

If you are asking can the recipe be tripled into 48oz and then divided for each meal, the answer is yes, if that makes things easier for you!

  84. Pat May 3, 2016 at 10:08 am - Reply

I have to comment on this because I did the ORIGINAL Master Cleanse diet, which is lemon juice, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup and water. You begin by drinking a quart of very warm water that sea salt has been added to. You then drink 8 glasses of the lemon water mixture for 3 days, each day starting with the salt water. You can safely do this for up to 10 days. If you go past 3 days then it’s best to go to day 10. When you come off, to do it safely, you make a soup using fresh veggies, but drink only the broth. I lost 24lbs and felt amazing. I keep seeing people make their own version of The Master Cleanse ( written by a Dr I might add) but it’s not as safe or affective as his.

A comment for the people submitting “comments”.
REALLY???? There a lot of special people here…very flat learning curve. I’ll help spell it out.

1 it’s a challenge – in other words a “Dare” not a contest for posted results. Yes many people get good results but – Good for them. It’s not freakin Publishers Clearing House
2 yes you have to use the ingredients listed without substitution —- It’s A DARE!!!!! If you can’t do it than don’t!!!!
3 how much of each ingredient and how often/when to do this is SPECIFICALLY listed. If you can’t follow the directions or read them properly then ask for your 1st grade teacher or your parent for a review on reading and following direction…if your more advanced than that but are having problems then please work on some critical thinking skills rather than expecting someone to spoon feed you 3 word directives.
4 if all you’re going to do is B![@h about all the things life has to offer put them in a private journal because NO ONE CARES….this Crystal person who made this blog obviously does this to try and be helpful to others and probably doesn’t have the time or desire to answer un-thoughtful questions or gripes from people who either don’t understand the greater purpose or are smart enough to see the bigger picture but are too small in themselves to be positive to others and must bring things down for their self elevation.

Ok everyone. I haven’t started yet…. only because I can’t find lemon oil. I have found some but is for aromatherapy.

I had been reading other master cleanse recipies that say to drink it within the first 5 minutes of making it. But that is only because you are to preserve the enzymes in freshly squeezed lemons. Is the same true if we are using the oil? Or is this something I can do the night before and refrigerate for the next day?

Some of these other recipes I’ve seen day that you need to drink it within 5 min of making it. And that’s to take advantage of the enzymes in the freshly squeezed lemons. Is it the same if we are using the oil? Or can I make it the night before and refrigerate it. I know it may make it a little spicier. But I don’t want to lose any benefits if I do.

Hi! I took on the challenge and I have not had many “restroom runs”, therefore, I don’t believe I have detoxed at all. I followed the instructions intently, maybe it’s just not for me. I’m disappointed considering the time and resources put into it not to mention the yucky drink I had to endure. Anyway, I will say I’m happy that at least it gave me a boost to try something new and continue my weight loss journey. Not many people have posted their results so I thought this would be appreciated!

I accept the challenge. I am now 224 lbs

I want to start this Monday, but I have a very sensitive stomach & an ulcer I’m not sure I can use the amount of cayenne pepper stated in the recipe. What is the lowest amount of cayenne pepper to get the results needed to cleanse the toxins out of my body. My stomach just can’t handle any spicy drinks or food. I’m afraid this will make my ulcer & sensitive stomach much worse. Would you suggest I try this drink or not & not upset my very sensitive stomach & ulcer. As of 5/28/16 I weigh 207. In the last 2 months I have already lost 25 pounds w/of even trying. I have a long list of health problems that cause me intense constant pain everyday & because of the pain I find it very hard to eat. I do drink a lot of detox water recipes everyday & that is about all I drink. I eat a piece of fruit every now & then, but I find I can only eat about 1/4 of it at a time this is about all my stomach can handle. Do you suggest I try this drink? I’m thinking probably not.

I’m doing this starting immediately, 143 lbs.

I spoke with the dentist I work with about fresh squeezed lemon water, she said if I start with a coconut oil pull, the enamel on my teeth will survive.

As I have already been having lemon water, I am just going to add these other delicious ingredients, sounds too good to be true, all my favorite things!

So far I am trying 8oz of warm water 1tablespoon of honey, I tablespoon of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of ACV and 2 tablespoons of lime . We will see how if works…. weight my self yesterday at 134 pounds.

  116. Nora June 17, 2016 at 5:39 am - Reply

I have been drinking 8 oz of warm water with 2 TBSP of ACV with 1 TBSP of raw organic honey and a sprinkle of cayenne no weight changes even though I’ve changed my diet and have been working out. Moderate work out but trying to build consistency. Very frustrating – I’ve had excema and that’s improved d/t the ACV but not weight loss.

  119. Natalie June 23, 2016 at 8:17 pm - Reply

OK, I am doing this. I unfortunately weight 233 lbs, the most I have ever weighed. I feel so tired all of the time. I work in an office all day, sitting at a computer. When I get home I grab something quick and very unhealthy for me, comfort food I guess. Then I sit in front of the tv all night. So I am going to give this a good try. I made it about an hour ago and had a glass right away even though I had already eaten supper, cause I usually get hungry in the evenings or bored so I eat. So I will report back in 3 days. I am on vacation next week so I am hoping I can get a good start on Making some changes. Badly needed changes. Keep your fingers crossed that this can help. I am sure it isn’t all I need to do but I think it certainly can’t hurt.

I’m wondering if Crystal Collins is still responding to these posts, and second, I’m only seeing beginning weight, and not ending weights.

No pictures? I’ll hide my identity by using a picture over my face. I believe I’ll have the ability to see the change in weight when I compare pictures

It’s hard to see any changes to our before and after picture, than simply looking at our images in a mirror.

I’ll notice changes in my grandchildren, if I haven’t seen them in a while, as pop to seeing then everyday.

    I’ll keep y’all posted.

I’ve been drinking this drink for the past 5 days and I kinda swear by it now. Three times a day, before each meal, I drink water with a squeeze of raw honey, 2 tablespoons of ACV with the mother , cayenne, cinnamon and the juice of a lemon. I eat 3 healthy meals, along with a light snack in between. I’ve lost 7 pounds in 5 days. Hope this helps.
