Why You Shouldn’t Follow My Blog

Some of you just did a double take of that title and asked yourself, did she really just tell me not to follow her blog? Yes I did, and here’s why you probably won’t find my blog interesting and may just want to skip over it.

1. I don’t share every deal that’s available. I simply can’t, because it’s just me typing away at my computer while trying to manage a household.  I have a fabulous woman named Jenn who helps me out with posting every week, but even with her we can’t manage all the deals that come out.

2.  I share crazy posts that might gross some people out. Specifically I raved about my Diva Cup in an entire post for all the world to see.  For those of you just joining in, a Diva Cup goes where the sun don’t shine and I love mine!

3. I won’t always tell you where you can get free junk with coupons. I don’t want my family eating processed foods, so I’m not going to recommend that you do just so you’ll visit my blog.  If it’s got high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils in it, I don’t care if it’s free, I’m not talking about it.

Now if it will give you overage or help you reach your total with a mega event so that you can reduce the cost of your organic groceries, then we might talk…’Cause let’s face it, that’s a pretty smart shopping strategy!

4. I’m a Christ-follower. See let’s just get that part out of the way.  Noweadays it seems like I might as well be admitting to having the plague.  I don’t care what your beliefs are, you are welcome here on my blog.  Will you see me talk about my faith?  On the rare occasion, yes.

My blog isn’t a blog about my faith, so more than likely you’ll see me talk about my faith on my personal blog.  But if you don’t like me mentioning free Christian books, or Veggie Tales deals, then you probably should just skip over my blog.

5. I make money with my site. Yes, I went there!  I make money on my blog through advertising, affiliate links and the occasional sponsored article.  I started my blog to not only help people save money and live better, but to also help my family.

After both my husband and myself lost our jobs and our home at the beginning of the recession, this is what I turned to.  It’s been a blessing to my family, and I hope that it has been to many of you out there.  But if you don’t like the fact that I make money, don’t follow me.  And if you’re a blogger and don’t want to make money at it, don’t visit Savvy Blogging.

6. I do stupid things. One of which may be writing this very post!  I’ve made some pretty stupid decisions and mistakes since starting my blog, and I’m sure there will be many more.

I’ve embarrassed myself publicly, tried stupid features on my site, started a new series and never finished it, wrote about something that I thought was legit when it was really a scam, make spleling errors on a dayly basis and the list goes on.  I’m not perfect, so if you’re looking for that, hit the delete button on your google reader.

That’s me and my blog, and if it’s not a fit for you it’s really okay if you don’t want to follow me.  There really are some fabulous blogs out there that you might like better!

Oh, and be sure that you don’t follow me on Twitter or Facebook, because sometimes I even get political!  And if you don’t want me emailing you daily blog updates, make sure you don’t subscribe to my newsletter either.

  8. You crack me up, Crystal! I love your blog, and it’s in the top 3 of my Google Reader, so I see it daily. I’m not going anywhere! (By the way, I HOPE you’re making money from your blog! I think it’s crazy when I read people who are angry that bloggers are making money. Seriously?? Wouldn’t THEY hope to make money from something they spend hours working at?). Anyway, thanks for the hard work. I enjoy it!

  9. I love your blog…and I love Jesus…I love savings. Don’t leave us!! Keep up the good work! Keep making money; the Bible tells us He gives us witty inventions, and what can be more witty than blogging?

  10. Like, Like, Like, Like!!! You are an amazing blogger. The effort you put into this is amazing. Thank you for everything you do for all of us.

  11. Crack me up! I love your blog & I love even more that you’re healthy-eating minded! It inspires me. I am routinely freaked-out (so to say) over buying organics because of the prices. (Yes, I know…we’re in it for the long run). Your blog is VERY helpful & needed to this mom of three kids!

  12. P.S. LOL about the plague & being a Christian reference. It’s so not the in-thing for society so it seems. I love Jesus & try to share His love by my actions & words.

  13. You all are so awesome. I’m bookmarking your comments to come back to whenever I feel down on myself. :) Maybe I’ll blow them up into a poster to hang on my office wall!

  14. Cracks me up about the Diva Cup post. I have several internet friends that swear by theirs. I do love your blog!

  15. Well I am Atheist. I hope you will let me continue to read and participate in your blog. I just think you are very cool.

I also do not feed my kids processed foods. :-) I don’t want or need deals for that kind of stuff.

  16. I Love your blog and you deserve to be paid. You have helped me save money on many occasions and I find that you blog with a purpose Some blogs appear the author is just pulling stuff from the sky as they run out of material. Most importantly, our shared beliefs in Christ makes me want to read your blog :)

  17. This makes me what to read it even more! I LOVE your blog. Thank you for not including the “crap”. :D

  18. Ummm…I LOVE your blog for all of the reasons that you listed! Thanks for giving us a heads up on deals and tips that are wholesome for the body and the soul!!!

  19. I love everything that you stated and that you stand for! It is so refreshing to find someone that is totally willing to be out there and stand for something. Thanks so much for your blog, your deals, your willingness to share how you are attempting to do things that are better for your family. I will be a follower to the end!

  20. I found your website because of your CVS deals. Then I kept reading because of your healthy/organic type deals and will happily continue reading now that I know we share the same beliefs! Keep up the excellent and impressive deal hunting, my friend!!!

  21. Love your blog! I recommend your website to everyone! Keep it coming!!!

  22. I think you should have titled this post “Why you SHOULD follow my blog”. You pretty much just listed why I follow you :D

  23. I love your blog and look at it at least four or more times a day….and I am saving alot of money….so keep on doing what you are doing…:)

  24. Wow, another woman like me. This can’t be true. A woman not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them, a woman not afraid to speak her mind, a woman who doesn’t give in,or up, But simply gives. Who cares if you make money at it or how much. You ladies who run these sites and blogs give us the added knowledge and help in stretching our thin incoming dollars. Those who don’t like what you are doing must not be able to comprehend being sensible. Thanks for all your hard work at helping us stay united in savings and savy stories. This union of sharing is more like what our world should be like. In my grandmothers words , Oh”HEWQX” with the envious and disappointed ones.

  25. Love this post! My husband wanted to know what I was laughing about! I follow your blog because you are real and you share of yourself. I am so glad that this blog provides some income to your family. Keep up the good work!
    amyt

  26. I love your blog for precisely those reasons! Keep up the good work, and may God continue to bless you.

  27. Love, love, love this! Thank you so much for sharing. I will probably post a link to this on my blog because I feel the same way!!

  28. Whew…I thought I was being banned for sharing too many of your deals on facebook. LOL I love your blog! I am here to stay! Keep up the great work =)

  29. Just wanted to jump in to say YES to the Diva Cup too! I was a little hesitant to post about my love for mine, but it’s such an amazing (and not well-known!) product, and I think the women who read about it came away with some new knowledge.

    Thanks for all you do!

  30. These ARE the reasons that I do follow you….thank you! Oh, and your Diva Cup post…so glad you shared w/ us. I had never heard about it and it has definitely improved my quality of life!

  31. Just what I needed to hear today!

And I need to haul my Moon cup out of the closet and actually give it a try.

  32. I love your site!!! We are all going through this recession together! Thanks for everything you do! :)

  33. Can’t get rid of me that easy!! lol

I don’t remember ever seeing anything that shocked me on your blog. But then I’m from the DS gang, so not much of what you mentioned is new to me!!

Keep up the good work and keep those Veggie Tales deals coming!! Love it!!

    Lori

  34. I like that you’re honest & upfront. Yeck, you should get pd doing all the research to find the deals & steals. That’s time consuming. Keep the blogs coming :-)

  35. Crystal, I read every word!

My husband and I co-author & co-own PPP and I can tell you from personal experience that blogging has to be a passion. We both write because we love to write and help others. We also make money from some of our blogging activities, but if you only knew how much work goes into it and you saw how little money is made… Well, suffice it to say that you’d make more per hour working at Mikcy D’s.

    Keep up the good works!

  36. All those reasons you listed are the reasons I read your blog! I love your blog and all the great ideas! I’ve loved your recipes and gardening tips! Thank you for what you do! You site has helped me and my family! You even got me to try and keep eating couscous!

  37. I absolutely LOVE your blog, I love how open you are, especially this post. Thank you for taking time out of your life to help us. As far as I am concerned – EVERYONE needs a little “Christ” in their life……. Recession is hard!! Who cares if you get paid for us looking at your site – you deserve it, taking the time out of your life and away from your children for a moment or two…. GO GIRL!!!

  38. Clever post!! You should have also included our stance on TSA! Lol! I agree with you on everything! Well I occasionally buy hot dogs… But they are 100% beef! ;)

  39. I love this post and your blog. Yes, you should get paid for doing all this work just as any other person wants to be paid if he/she does any kind of work.I love that you are honest. I’ve read some post where every reviewed product was great and a must have. Rally?!I do not read this kind of blogs any more. Waste of my precious time. And I do not buy junk so other blogs are not useful to me. Please keep those veggie tales going. My kid loves them and I’ve never heard of them before you post a deal. Way to go Crystal.
Blessings to you and your family.

  40. Another bloggr forwarded this link to me. This absolutely rocks!I hope you just doubled your readers from this! Thanks from all bloggers out there for speaking up! :)

  41. I follow you, moneysavingmom and happyhousewife. If I see something that doesn’t interest me (diva cup), I just skip it.

Money? Why should you work for free? We all save a lot of money from your blog and appreciate what you do. I have a suggestion for you – put up a post with a ‘donate’ blurb, offering to split 50% with your helper. I bet you’d be shocked at how much came into your coffers. One of the Catholic bloggers I follow donates much of the money she gets from referral fees.

And on being Catholic… I enjoy the Christian thoughts and feelings shared on your blog – not just by you but by the people commenting. In my life, I seem to be around many people who have little faith, or tend not to share it at all (we Catholics are good at being closed-mouth). So it’s a nice feeling to see all the loving expressions that people share here.

  42. Once again, you hit the nail on the head! This is exactly why I read your blog! You have saved my family sooo much money and given me sooo many helpful tips, etc. I dont think I could ever thank you enough! I loved reading this. Thank you for all that you do:)

  43. This post was worth coming out of lurking and commenting for the first time! Thanks for keeping it real. Actually, I found this post to be quite inspiring.

  44. I have followed your blog since you started it. I remember we were on the thrifty forum on DiaperSwappers and you were asking for help naming your new blog. Now look at you! I love the integrity in which you walk. Keep up the good work!

  45. I love your honesty, Crystal.
And it’s because of your choosiness that I routinely check your blog :)

  46. Go on with your bad self! Great post! I actually LOVE your site above others. A few years ago when I first got hard core into couponing, I turned to blogs like yours to help me out. I have been with your nearly from the start of your blog. I always appreciated the time savings you offered people like myself that were trying to cut costs without always knowing the best ways to do so.

After my hubs had a bout with cancer at the ripe old age of 37, we drastically changed what we eat and how we live. I hardly ever coupon anymore. I found my pantry and linen closets stuffed with chemicals. Free, cheap or not, my family does not need to be poisoned at the hand of mass production.

Although I rarely comment on your site, I do read your entries. Out of the “money blogs” I followed, yours was the ONLY one that moved in the same direction that my family was/is moving in. I buy the majority of my WHOLE AND GOD GIVEN foods in bulk. I use everything grandma used to use to clean my home, laundry, etc. I so appreciate your posts like the one on soap nuts instead of how I can score twenty-five cent laundry powder at the corner drug store.

I know this takes a lot of time for you whether or not you are posting “deals”, opinions or simply thoughts. You, my friend, are building treasures in heaven. You are using your passion for healthy living and your talent of writing to help others. Know that we appreciated it and that God is smiling down on you!

Thank you so much for all you do and all that you put into your site!!

  47. I love your blog for several of these reasons. You aren’t going to tell us about unhealthy products. You care about the health and spiritual development of your family. I love the way you express your love for them through your thrifty and natural ways! Thank you for your discernment. In a world of “extreme couponing” you are a breath of fresh air!

  48. I just found your blog, and wanted to say, “WOW.” I was looking for the Whole Foods matchups. It’s nice to find a list, rather than just 1 or 2. I clicked on this post because of the title. :D

Oh, and there seem to be a TON of Christian Couponers on the internet. You are not the minority. I am proud to say that I live in a religiously tolerant home, where Jews, Catholics, and Pagans all love each other. Keep on spreading the love!

  49. I think maybe I should add a page like this on my blog too! I do a lot of the same things and feel the same way. I’m glad you aren’t apologizing for being yourself! :)

  50. Oh my word, I love this post. I actually feel that I could say all of the above about my blog. (but I don’t want to be a copycat-seriously though I feel the same way about me and my blog.) This post is awesome and will probably make me read your blog even more! You are true to yourself and honest. that is awesome and a rare thing these days! thanks!!!!

  51. OMG I laughed and laughed. I do hope people haven’t been saying mean things! Love your blog – follow you by email AND on Facebook, so I don’t miss anything in my crazy life. Thank you for not posting about junk! :)

  52. Amen!! Keep talking and posting about Christian Books and Veggitales. I am all for it!!

  53. I LOVE LOVE LOVE TheThriftyMama!!!I tell people about your site ALL THE TIME!! ♥♥

  54. LOL I’d hate for people to leave, but I don’t want you to keep getting my updates if you don’t want them. ;)

  55. lol i’ve been following you since I “found” you on diaper swappers and no plans on stopping :P love that you keep it real

  56. You are awesome and those very reasons that might make some people not follow your blog are the ones that make me want to follow it!

  57. I am a Christ follower too. I make mistakes too. I am way older than you so get used to it. Maybe you will be smarter than me and quit making mistakes, but then again maybe you will just keep trying things and sometimes make mistakes . Thats life.

  58. I enjoy your blog! You are a very good influence and I enjoy reading when I can. Keep up the good work and thank goodness you make money doing it! ;)

  59. I think I LOVE Thrifty Mama even more now that I have read your post….. you are a REAL person – and that is the type of person I want to be “following” on facebook. THANK YOU for everything!! ps. I WONT be leaving and you cant make me!! LOL

  60. haha. yeah…..I think I’ll unlike you because I dont buy TONS of stuff off of your deals (found even more when I actually go to your site). LOVE your blog (and love veggie tales too btw). You’ve been a life saver (although I now have more magazines coming in the mail that I ever have time to read) and yahoo for blogging as a way to support your family. good for you!!!

  61. Great post. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…you’re the oprah of the blogging world. :)

  62. You GO GIRL! FINALLY, it’s ok to be you and know that you will never please all the people all the time. You are a breath of fresh air, I even laughed, thumbs up from me! Thank you :)

  63. haaha even if we dont agree on somethings id be stupid not to follow you lol

  64. Well, maybe you’re not as well known as Oprah, but I think you are doing a fine job of using this platform to be genuinely helpful to others…and you’re doing it with integrity. Rock on, girl.

  65. Love it! No one is perfect and everyone has their opinions, that’s what makes us who we are! Love you’re site and I’m sticking around! :)

  66. Crystal, your the best, and I am not saying that just because we are family…your too cute, and you definitely made me almost pee myself when you posted about your muffin top.. :)

  67. Those are all reasons why I follow your site….thanks for what you do…I know my family has benefited from it!

  68. haha! mine would saY: YOU SHOULD PROBABLY NOT FIRE OFF RUDE COMMENTS ON MY BLOG , NOT EXPECTING A REPLY! tee hee!

  69. This is the most honest, funny, laugh out loud post I have read in a long time..I’m totally following you!
    :)

P.S. I found you through Money Saving Mom

  70. I love to meet people who think like me! Now I gotta follow you :)
