Health Benefits of Chia Seeds, And How to Use Chia Seeds In Your Food (Recipes)

My daughter and I made a video together to talk about the benefits of chia seeds. We got a little distracted and off track when our video equipment shut off without warning, so I’m following up with more information on chia seeds. Watch the video for a fun demonstration of how I use chia seeds, and you can enjoy the hilarious antics of my daughter….isn’t she a cutie? 🙂

But to follow up…here are some of the benefits of chia seeds, our favorite recipes, and tips on where to buy them.

Benefits of Chia Seeds:

  • Contain needed Omega-3 Fatty acids (compiled of 60% Omega-3s).
  • Provide fiber beneficial for reducing inflammation, lowering cholesterol, and maintaining a healthy gut.
  • Provide calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and manganese.
  • Provide antioxidants that ward off free radicals.
  • Anti-cancer properties.
  • Help lower food cravings in between meals.
  • Hydrate the body.
  • Can be used as an egg replacer (mix 1 TB chia seed with 3 TB water, let gel and can substitute for 1 egg).
  • Has been shown to lower triglyceride levels.
  • Can help regulate blood sugar.

Chocolate Chia Pudding Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 TB cacao
  • 1 TB honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 TB chia seeds

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients, and let chill in the fridge for an hour or longer.
  2. Serve topped with your favorite berries! 🙂

Overnight Oats Chia Pudding Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 TB honey
  • 2-4 TB your favorite jam/jelly or you can add in your favorite fruit
  • 1 cup oats
  • 2-4 TB chia seeds

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together and store in the fridge overnight.
  2. Serve the next morning.

Where to Buy Chia Seeds:

Chia seeds can be purchased from pretty much any health food store, but my favorite places to get them from are Mountain Rose Herbs and Amazon.

And did you know that if you are dehydrated, you can hydrate pretty quickly with chia seeds? They are super hydrators! It’s almost like they’re a super food hero of hydrating! Now all they need is a cape…
