We’re currently going through a 5-day Juice Cleanse in our accountability group, and I’ve noticed a growing trend of sugary juices while juicing for health. I’m definitely more of an advocate of juicing vegetables vs. juicing sugary fruits and here’s why:

1. I used to juice a lot of fruits in the beginning, and frankly I got sick of the sugary juices.

2. All that sugar isn’t necessarily healthy and can even cause insulin issues, and is especially dangerous for those with diabetes or other blood sugar issues.

3. The nutrients in green vegetables are far more beneficial.

4. I feel so much better drinking green juices, than when I have sugary juice.

5-Day Juice Cleanse Day One Recipes

For those of you participating in the 5-day cleanse, here are some recipes for day one that you can try.

Keep in mind that everyone’s cleanse will look differently. Some people will do just one juice a day while others will go full-throttle with drinking just green juices for 5 days. Follow your instincts with what your body can handle right now and of course consult with a physician on what the best route is for you.

For this juicing cleanse, we always start mild on day one to get our bodies used to juicing. The day starts out with a juice that is loaded with Vitamin C. A fruit juice that is high in water content and sugars will quickly flush out the system and get you ready for the rest of the juice cleanse that is packed with a ton of vegetables.

If we go too strong on the greens first thing, the body will get slammed with a full on detox. Let’s ease into this cleanse:

Kick-Off Juice:

  • 2 apples
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 celery stalks
  • ½ lemon

Simple Green Juice:

  • 6 carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 2 handfuls spinach

Melon Head Juice:

  • 4 kale leaves
  • 4 small chunks cantaloupe
  • 1 apple
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 peeled orange
