How I’m Saving $94.25 a Month by Letting Go of an Obsession

I love my iPhone. I’ve been an iPhone girl for several years. You might say that I have an obsession with it. So the prospect of having to give it up, really really REALLY perturbed me. But my phone bill was up to $119 a month with Verizon, and that included unlimited talk, text, and only up to 3 GB of data. So when I discovered Republic Wireless after reading up about it on Clark Howard’s site, I decided that I should take the plunge.

Republic Wireless offers unlimited talk, text, and data for $25 a month!! Just let that sink in for a second. Uh…yeah you heard it right. $25 a month. Sound too good to be true? I thought so, but was willing to test it, especially after reading positive feedback online from other customers.

I ended up purchasing the 16 GB Moto G that runs with the Android operating system. So far I have been really pleased, but there are a few drawbacks. Watch my video below to see what I have to say about this phone and the phone service.

If you do plan to check it out, I do recommend that you check to make sure you have good coverage in your area. You can learn more and see if you’re covered in your area on the Republic Wireless website here.

Andย this seriously begs the question: Why aren’t the other phone companies doing this yet? I mean, we’re basically all walking advertisers for them when we go around with our phones, but we never get anything for that “free advertising.” I might as well have been wearing a T-shirt for them. Nah dude. Not cool.

But I digress…overall I’m happy with it, with the main drawback of the phone itself being the camera. And I seriously miss my iPhone. I find that I’m still using my iPhone over Wi-Fi for photo and video work, so it’s basically become my camera. But for a savings of $94.25 a month, I think it’s well worth the slight “inconvenience.”

What do you think? Have you tried Republic Wireless? Are you with a similar company that you would recommend? I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Thanks for this! I’ve been with Metro PCS for six years; they’re not horrible given where we live, but the thought that I can get the same service for even cheaper is a bit mind blowing! We’ve been wondering if this has all been media hype ever since the Clark Howard piece…time to check it out! Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this! I have been researching a phone plan for my parents and this looks like the best deal so far! Do you have to sign a contract with the company or is it month by month?

Thanks for the video. I just switched to rw two weeks ago. I’m loving the moto g and I was really impressed with how easy the transition was. I had straight talk before and I had no trouble transferring every thing to a new phone or learning the operating system. I love being able to talk to the phone to set reminders or alarms or notes. I’m saving $20 a month over the old Service.

I have been using Republic wireless for about 2 months now with the Moto G and I really cannot complain about anything. I just got my bill and it was $29/mo with tax. Gotta Love it. Best wishes to you!

I also dropped Verizon, but I was able to keep my IPhone. I went to Page Plus. It is only $30 a month and I am still in the Verizon network. I need Verizon network because it is the only semi reliable one where I live (North Georgia mountains). I have 1,200 minutes of talk, 3,000 text and 500 mb of data. Since I still use my wifi at home this covers my needs. Just in case I may ever go over I paid an extra $10 to keep in my account. My husband has a dumb phone and it is only $15 a month for his service. Goodbye Verizon!
