Vitamin D plays a much bigger role in maintaining our health than most people know – our understanding of its importance has grown so much over recent years – we no longer consider it just a necessary vitamin for healthy bones – it’s also a hormone! Salmon – Grill it, sear it, roast it. The best food source of vitamin D around, it gives you your daily need of Vitamin D, and then some.
Sardines – Okay, not on the daily menu for most of us – but these little fish are packed with Vitamin D, along with so many other important nutrients. Try topping with chopped tomatoes, basil, lemon juice and a little bit of olive oil.
Organic Grass-fed Cows Milk – Dairy definitely isn’t for everyone, but if you chose to make it a part of your diet, you’ll benefit from its richness in Vitamin D. Try whole milk – this is the least processed-form of cows milk. It contains the most nutrients, and is considered a whole, natural food.
Organic Pasture Raised Eggs – Exceptionally nutritious, especially if they are fresh and local. Adding these to your diet will boost your Vitamin D intake, as well so many other important nutrients.
Adults need about 4,000 IU of Vitamin D a day! So with a healthy exposure to the sun, and being sure to include some of these foods as part of your diet, you’ll be able to maintain optimal levels of Vitamin D.
