What To Expect on a Juice Cleanse

I always tell people: “Don’t trust your farts, when you’re on a juice cleanse during days four and five.” Is that a little bit too much TMI? Well, if you’re going to go on a juice cleanse, I think it’s important to know what to expect, right? So I might as well keep it real.

So let’s talk a little bit about what to expect on a juice cleanse. I actually created a video to explain it a little more in depth, and you can watch that here:

The first thing to be prepared for when going on a cleanse is a detox! And a detox will look differently for each person. It varies greatly based on diet and environment. So for example, if you drink a ton of products that contain caffeine, a detox may end up being a lot harder for you because you’ll also be dealing with caffeine withdrawals while on a cleanse.

At this point I should also note that not everyone should go on a full on cleanse. Depending on your medications, medical history, and such you want to be very careful about going full detox. ie. People that have gone through chemotherapy should never go on a full juice cleanse, as the juice may release the leftover chemo that your body is storing in fat cells all at once which could be lethal. Most doctors agree that adding in some juice every day can be beneficial, but no a full cleanse in this case.

I don’t say this to scare you, just to prepare you so that you consult your doctor always before starting a cleanse. And, I’m not prescribing or treating any illness here, so ALWAYS CHECK. 🙂

Juice Cleanse DAYS 1-3

While keeping in mind that a lot of these will vary in occurrence and intensity by person, these are a couple of things you can expect to happen on days 1-3 of a cleanse:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Chills (feeling cold)
  • Frequent trips to the bathroom (you’ll be going a lot out of both ends)
  • Cravings for food
  • Feeling tired
  • Light-headedness
  • Shakes/”swarminess”

It should be noted that if any of these become too extreme ( ie. you think you are going to faint), then you need to drink more juice or at have some vegetable broth to get you through the rough patch.

Juice Cleanse DAYS 3-5

Somewhere between days 3-5, everything turns around for the better. You’ll start to feel absolutely amazing! Here are a couple of things that you may look forward to:

  • Increased energy
  • Improved focus and clarity
  • Reduced cravings for food (they usually completely go away for me)
  • Still frequent trips to the bathroom (don’t trust those farts!)
  • Improved mood
  • Overall euphoric feeling

If you’re interested in participating in your own cleanse, you can check out the recipes, shopping list, guide, and so much more with this 5-Day Cleanse here.

I hope that you found this helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions. And if you’ve done a cleanse, I’d love to know how it went for you!

Cheers!

I'm a former sweet-tooth turned health-nut. After a difficult loss of a first pregnancy and having a second child with a heart condition, I became obsessed with health and wellness. I revamped our entire family's lifestyle, dropped seven pant sizes, and created a website where I could share our story and help support people wanting to make small changes day by day in order to live well. I also support my family by the work that I do here through advertising content, affiliates, and partnership/consultant links within content. When you click and/or order, it puts food on our table. Thanks for all your support, and may you live well and thrive!
